Doing something different this time around, because sometimes I feel like I am consuming too much comedy, so that when someone is like, “oh who should I check out? What shows do you like?” my mind goes completely blank and I imagine I look like that episode of Scooby Doo when they get hypnotized.
It’s been a hot minute since I landed in your inbox, but on my mind recently has been, obviously, spooky season. If you know me, you know that for the last 4-ish years, I’ve been trying to get over my fear of scary movies. Some I still won’t watch, and we call that self care (looking at you, entire Saw series). But some are a dumb fun time! Queue these up this weekend, which do lean more comedy.
Final Girls (Amazon). Four real people get sucked into a Friday the 13th-esque horror film, and have to find their way out. Oh, and the star of the slasher movie is the real life mom of one of the four stuck. Come for the campy horror tropes, stay for the surprisingly sentimental mother-daughter moments.
Hubie Halloween (Netflix). Look I KNOW that half the people who watched this hated it, and to them I say, “you’re wrong.” My brother and I watched this in 2020 and immediately watched it one more time. I am forever haunted by thinking I read the name ‘Kevin Garnett’ in the EP credits and thought he and Adam Sandler became such great friends on Uncut Gems that he produced this dumb Netflix movie with him.
Werewolves Within (Showtime). Did you ever play Mafia or Werewolf or Manhunt between the ages of 11-25? Watch this movie.
Vampires vs the Bronx (Netflix). Who doesn’t love a good vampire moment, especially when it is young Bronx natives fighting them to save the neighborhood??
Bodies Bodies Bodies. Is this streaming yet? It should be in theaters annually, IMHO. Come for Lee Pace being 6’5, stay for the context of the line “you are upper middle class.”
Scream 1, 4, 5. You can watch 2&3 later if you’ve never seen any in the series! Just do it!
On to the tweets. Joked to my coworkers I might do this weekly (hence tweetly roundup) and there is nothing I love more than committing to a bit:

This trailer is worth your time because why is that the Taylor Swift song used and why does she dance like that and did they want to originally name this Alexa?
The ‘Mexico Week’ of Great British Bake Off is truly a villain origin story. I sent several angry voice note texts about it.

Speaking of committing to the bit… society needs this, Home Depot.
Hope you all missed me in your inbox as much as I missed forcing my thoughts out of my head and into this substack. This weekend I will be consuming more creepy content, celebrating at birthday and podcast parties, and gearing up for a trip to both Carolinas.
